What is one of the most critical factors in a full immersion bootcamp? We feel strongly that it is the level of engagement that the bootcamp has with the marketplace. The reason that many students have committed to set aside 12+ weeks of their time is the promise of employment at the end of the training and with good reason as the job market for developers is off the charts! In the Orange County and Southern California market it is ripening quickly with many new companies and growing enterprises evolving to take advantage of the flourishing online marketplace. Given the strong demand, salaries are also are ratcheting up which is attracting many aspiring engineers.
Therefore at LearningFuze we take it very seriously that a critical part of what is offered is the opportunity to interact with different companies both large and small as well as start-ups and established enterprises. Over the course of the last several months we have had a plethora of organizations that have graciously dedicated their time to come and talk to the students about what it means to be a Jr. Developer, the interviewing process and what they each look for in the best candidates. The list of companies includes: Kelley Blue Book, Amazon, Zillow, OnDemand Korea, BigRentz and Pivotshare with several others that will be coming to the LearningFuze site in the next few months. The interaction with the students has been invaluable as the discussion not only focuses on the skills associated with coding but also the importance of softer skills such as effective communication, project management methodologies and finding the right cultural fit.
Given the emphasis on employment we dedicate time during the course of the bootcamp to conduct resume reviews, mock interviews and even some white board interviewing to ensure students are best prepared to effectively compete in the marketplace. The bottom line is that given the sacrifice and commitment that students make to the bootcamp experience it is important that they have opportunity to understand what is expected once they conclude their training as well as begin to develop relationships with companies during their time in the program.
