BeSmartee Scholarship & Mentorship Winner | Angel Leung

Congratulations to our January BeSmartee Scholarship & Mentorship Winner, Angel Leung! Since March is currently Women’s History Month, we at LearningFuze wanted to showcase one of our current students to celebrate women in tech. Hailing from the Seattle, Washington State area, Angel is currently in the second half of the Web Development Full Immersion program.

We asked Angel some questions on what her goals are and what she hopes to gain from winning this opportunity:

1. Why did you choose to pursue web development as a career?

Before I decided to enroll at LearningFuze, I was working as a medical assistant at a clinic, on a path headed towards medical school. When covid hit and I was furloughed from my job for three months, I had time to reflect on whether I wanted to continue on that path or choose a new career that I truly enjoyed. I realized that what I wanted to do most was to help people, and technology is actually the best way for me to achieve my goal of reaching as many people as possible. After taking a few free programming courses online, I realized how much I loved using my creativity to solve problems, and I became excited about how I was able to build something tangible and useful through code. I decided that I want to pursue programming so that I can be innovative and someday create solutions that have a meaningful, lasting impact.

2. Why did you choose to attend LearningFuze?

After taking a lot of time to research coding boot camps, LearningFuze drew my attention because it had excellent ratings and reviews from previous students. Many reviews from students reported that they felt that the staff prepared them well for job interviews and genuinely cared about their success, which was of the utmost importance to me. Having attended the 2-week prep course and week 1 of the full immersion course, I can attest that I wholeheartedly agree with those students. I am so glad that I made the right decision by choosing LearningFuze!

3. What are you looking forward to learning about from your mentor at BeSmartee?

I am so honored and thankful to have been selected as the recipient of the scholarship. Having already met with my mentor, Krystal, a couple times now, I am grateful for the opportunity to get advice and guidance from someone who has been through the LearningFuze program and was in the same position as I am now just a few years ago. It is so valuable to be able to gain insight from her experiences, and I am excited to learn more about what to expect as a female developer in the tech industry from her.

4. What is your goal after finishing the Web Development Full Immersion at LearningFuze?

My immediate goal is to start my career with a company where I can sharpen my development skills and learn to program effectively and efficiently. Once I have established my coding skills, I hope I can use my knowledge and expertise to improve the lives of others and make a difference in society. Two things I am passionate about are health and the environment, so my dream would be to incorporate something related to that into my work, such as by creating a website that empowers people to take charge of their health, or building an app that encourages individuals to help to reduce our global carbon footprint.
