Module 2 Description

Module 2 continues with the theme of learning by doing! Students will learn advanced design skills through exercises and projects from a senior level designer with years of experience in the industry. Participants will dive into the tools of a designer (I.e. Figma, and more) as well as learn the fundamentals of code and specifically HTML, CSS and core JavaScript in order to effectively collaborate with development teams in the workplace. Students will also learn to prepare for the job search and produce a quality portfolio of projects to best present design skills for the marketplace.

Advanced Design Skills

Take your knowledge of software design and the related tools to the next level as you ideate, wireframe and build mobile responsive web layouts for projects of your choice. Take a deeper dive into powerful tools such as Figma, and more!

Develop Essential Coding Skills

Learn to work with code in key fundamental languages instrumental in building high quality and appealing websites and applications such as HTML and CSS. You will not only gain exposure on how to utilize the languages but be able to effectively and knowledgeably collaborate with web developers.

Expand Your Portfolio

At the end of this module, you will have developed the soft skills needed to gain a deep understanding of how to translate customer needs and to great design and communicate that understanding to potential employers. Students will have a comprehensive portfolio of projects to illustrate a clear command of design principles coveted by employers.

This 12-week course has been designed to maximize learning around the fundamental concepts related to coding and web development on a part-time basis. The following is a week by week summary of the topics covered in the course:

Week 1: Bridging UX and UI

Week 2: Foundations of Interaction Design
Interaction Design, the principles of Gestalt design, layout, alignment, and more
Week 3: Interaction Design 2.0
Let’s dive deeper as we add in animations, accessibility, and heuristic evaluation
Week 4: Typography, Color, and Branding
Learn the importance of branding, what typography is, and what colors to use
Week 5: Responsive Web & App Design
Responsive design for mobile phones, tablets, laptops, and desktops
Week 6: Design Patterns and Creating Design Software
Building upon our responsive design experience and applying that to business software
Week 7: Diving into Software Design
Agile methodology and designing software for business use
Week 8: Digital Prototyping
Let’s ideate again and now create interactions with Figma
Week 9: The Future of Design
Designing for Voice Search, Augmented Reality, and Virtual Reality
Week 10: HTML, CSS, and working with Developers
HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, and working with frontend developers
Week 11: Interview Prep and Career Services
Getting ready for the job search; portfolio prep, interviewing, and more
Week 12: Demo Day
Present your final projects and then begin your UX/UI job search!

Weekly Schedule

Students are expected to be able to commit between 15 to 20 hours per week including instructional hours. This course is optimally structured for in-person participation at our campus facility in Irvine, CA. However, we have built in the flexibility to allow online participation when necessary.

The program is designed to accommodate the busy schedule of the students with class times that takes place two times during the week and in the afternoon on Saturday. Students get the most out of the program by participating in-person as is the case when learning anything. However, we understand that the unexpected can happen during the course of a week which is the reason we offer the option of taking any particular session online.

UI/UX Module 2 Cost: $500

You can qualify to take UI/UX Module 2 after completion of a Full Time Course or a single Part Time Module.
If you are planning to take UI/UX Module 2 without taking Module 1, please note you will have to test into UI/UX Module 2.
